There is always another trip. Plus if you find you like a setup more than the other then thats a good excuse to get new stuff!!

    Boom. Problems solved.
“The word hammockable (Meaning: two trees that are the perfect distance apart between which a hammock can be hung) is not in the dictionary, but it should be.”

Sounds like you are moving in the right direction. You need to take care of BOTH of you. Neither is more important. Practice with the gear like you are doing. Have her sleep in both overnight (not just a test). After you ease her back into hiking, make sure you take some looong hikes covering the distance you will need to cover each day and carrying the weight. She will be able to judge if those distances and weight work for her. If not, adjust accordingly.

If there are issues or preferences against the old gear, sell the old gear to fund new or better used gear for her to use. She may offer to pay the difference or may not (and you can choose to accept or not). Small price to pay to have her with and two years from now, you'll long forget the money outlay but remember the great hike (or hikes) you've shared with her and potentially with other people that use your second setup. Get yourself a underquilt for you to use when the two of you are together and you use the rest of the time. Enjoy!
