Overnight / Weekend hikes near Vancouver (lower mainland) BC Canada

    Hi everyone,

My son and I are trying to find a list of overnight and weekend hiking trips we can do between Whistler to Hope. The closer to the lower mainland the better though.

Any ideas, especially with links to photos or videos would be greatly appreciated!

    Regards,
    Whale

-Howe Sound Crest Trail (starts from Cypress and ends at Porteau Cove)
-Elsay Lake (Starts from Mt. Seymour parking lot by the lifts and ends back there again)

These are close overnight trips, both have incredible views.

Golden Ears is a good trip like you mentioned in your other thread. I haven't done the Tusk.

Elfin Lakes is a nice trip but not so much for hanging.

    Brady,

Howe Sound Crest Trail and Elsay Lake both sound and look great, had to check out some YouTube videos.

    Thanks!

Sunkmail and I did 'em both last year. Definitely nice local trips. The views from the top on HSCT are incredible.

    Hey Sunkmail,

Thanks for the pics, both look like great hikes though HSCT drew my attention a bit more.

    Which was your favorite?

The HSCT was definitely the more interesting hike, but also the more difficult.

I would have no hesitations/objections to doing either (both) of them again.

Curious question - What part of the GVRD are you in?

The HSCT is absolutely stunning, but it's quite a challenge. If you are going from Cypress (as most do) it's a long long haul to get to magnesia meadows. Most try to get here to overnight to access water as there's nothing on route other than some ephemeral muddy tarns, or big detours to get down to water off the ridge.

For hangers, there's relatively limited spots as the trees are in clumps or too far apart. There are places, but you'll probably be spread over the meadow if there are a few hammocks in the party.

The lakes to the north and at lower elevation and absolutely stunning, but too far to get to in 1 day. These would make place for a great weekend, hiking in from Porteau Cove even without doing the HSCT. It would still take 4 or 5 hours to get up to the highest lake from the sea to sky though.
