    ENO profly

Purchased a ENO house fly. This is my first tarp purchase and so far I like it very much. The doors are great especially this time of year. My only compliant is the cordage. It is very small in diameter. (old age) This makes is very hard to tie and untie in my opinion unless you use slip knots. Also the length is only about 10 foot. Has anyone replaced there cordage with 550 or do you think the 550 will stretch to much? Been hanging in the woodlot and working out the kinks before I head out this summer. Thanks for any input.

A large number of hangers use Zing-it or Lash-it which is smaller than 550 but it doesn't stretch and is spliceable. Dutchware makes various hardware that is used with this small diametre line. The hardware makes things easy to setup and knot free. 550 will work but it does stretch.

Will the para-cord stretch that much? Like the idea of a thicker cord to work with. My eyes and hands. Also want to use lime green for the tie downs and orange for the ridge line. Color system for kids. Of course if its going to stretch 3 0 4 inches in a night I'll have to rethink that idea.

The cord and the tarp will stretch especially when wet but you could use some sliding hitches that aren't too hard to tie and can remain tied and attached to the tarp. This will allow you to tighten things up after your setup has been up for a while.

You could put shock cord loops on the tie out points. The loops will help compensate for stretch in the tarp/ para cord.

I don't think that stretchy shock cord would compensate for stretchy paracord. Paracord really has no business in a hammock setup.

I agree about ditching the paracord but as the para cord stretches the shock cord will take up the slack.

People use shock cord to compensate for the stretch of silnylon tarps when they get wet. I personally found it didn't make much of a difference. However, I'm having a hard time thinking that shock cord will compensate for the stretchiness of paracord, whether wet or dry.

I misread the OP, I though he was already using paracord so I was just trying to be helpful. I agree that paracord is less than ideal for tension related applications.
