I go through a few hundred Xacto blades a year. Far cheaper and faster than replacing/sharpening scissors or knifes. Years ago I picked up a large crafters cutting board....they have them in the sewing section of any craft store. It is ruled and lined out so you don't need another tool on the table. Cut, measure, splice.

Ahh I like that idea...thank you! I need to hit up a craft store (if we even have any left here) to see if I can find a cutting board. I had been just using scissors and putting a lot of tension on the cut to get it to go but I think your way method work a bit better.
