    >Canada>Ont>EGL Spring 2015 Algonquin: Return to Chicamoula

Spring's in the air!!!! Time to revarnish the paddles, tie up a couple of new flies and get the old dehydrator going.

There's a lake I've known for many a year that I have some unfinished business with; business in the form of a small plastic bottle of Laphroaig left behind a couple of years back.

McIntosh is a beautiful lake with decent fishing and one major portage. We'd head in through Canoe, paddle the long stretch to Tom Thomson, portage two kilometers and snake through Ink Creek into McIntosh. No better way to bring in the paddling season.

Proposed Dates Avoiding Mother's Day Weekend:
    1. May 15-18th - Just after Mother's Day (Preferred dates)
    2. May 1-3rd - With this cold winter, likely to be too early.

Will be on another paddle May 20-24, so that's out.

Hopefully we'll be able to pull off another awesome camp meal or two. Everyone's welcome for a laid back, family-friendly weekend.

Can't say for certain but I've requested both possible weekends at work so it's looking good for me.

May 15-17 is the long weekend. I requested the weekend after trying to avoid the long weekend which doesn't work for Chard. Still may be able to go if I'm off the long weekend.

    Victoria day is the 18th.

I'd be in for either that weekend or the next as long as I'm not taking students backpacking then. I wonder how well the wilds of algonquin help scotch age.

I'm in. A 2km portage is a little scary though... I doubt there are going to be 9 Small Forest Axes at camp this time...

Way too strenuous a trip for me, particularly in May when I'm just awaking from my winter hibernation..

Talk about out of shape...any shape!!

Oh, and that portage is 2390 m!

    Have fun y'all!!

Granted the portage is long, but other than the Canoe-Joe Highway it's the only one we have to deal with. The portage itself is actually a really nice trail and there's no rush. Take one trip, two or three. Personally I find the long paddle from Joe to The end of Tom Thomson the arduous leg.

We could try something weird and actually have a group gear list with only a couple of stoves and axes, but there's a certain charm to be travelling with a group of cordon-bleu vikings!!!
