The Terminator and I drove up to Raleigh on Thursday and spent the night with our son who now lives there. We got a chance to use our recently finished turtle dog standsin his apartment and spend the night in the comfort of our hammocks. It was either that or sleep on the floor. I wanted to set up on his balcony but it was not big enough.
On Friday we headed for Umstead State Park around lunch time. I was looking forward to camping there as the last time I did so was in the 60's ( yes I know that makes me old and was before many of the attending hangers where even born ). I can tell you that the park has changed since the last time I was there.
Found PappyAmos already there along with Groundhog. Chigger and several others soon arrived along with Kingsford and Hoplips with their new chuck wagon trailer. The running joke at the hang was that PappyAmos was going to treat all of us to dinner at the Angus Barn ( the best steak restaurant in the area and just a short distance from the park ). PappyAmos had a few choicewords that are not printable as to what he thought of the idea.
I think this should be called the turtle dog stand hang as we had 6+ stands including a brand new stand from Hammeck.
Our youngest hanger was about 20 months old and just as cute as could be and spend the night in her own hammock. The Terminator had fun acting as a grandmother playing with the little one.
We had few new hangers join us and some are still in search in a name. For some reason Sandman's fiancee did not like the name “Ball and Chain” or “Stumbles”. We even discussed the possibility of changing CoreyR's name to "Inspector Gadget"
Several of us went hiking and or bike riding in the area. Nice area for hiking and there were lots of dogs and people on the trails and one big group of folks with backpacks loaded down like they were planning to be out for a week. PappyAmos asked all the little kids if they had seen any monsters on the trail. I heard one kid tell his mother that PappyAmos looked kind of scary.
The airplanes landing and taking off at the airport next to the park were annoying but not that bad except for one small prop job that kept flying over head.
Our son Jeff joined us Saturday and spent the night.
A group of kids across the way set up a bunch of hammocks ( looked like ENOs to me) and set several of them so high up they had to use a ladder to put them up and get into the hammocks. Got some good pictures of them.
To the first time group hangers...,thanks for coming out and joining the hang and hope to see you all again. It was also good to see some fellow hangers that I have not seen in awhile.
