    Top Quilt purchase advice

I'm looking to purchase a flight jacket for 3 season use in Michigan, and some time later down the road one for winter use. I generally sleep a little cold, so I'm wondering if I should be looking at a 30° with an oz or two of over stuff, or a 20°. Thoughts?

I really think a 20 is the most versatile. I use a 20 in northern Michigan three seasons a year. If I need more, I add my down sleeping bag. If less, I just throw part of it off of me. Between the TQ and the UQ I have been able to be really comfy with this set up. I like down because it tends to breathe and not be as stuffy in warmer temps.

What about adding overstuff to the 20°? Would that make it too warm?

I don't think so. I don't view overstuff as a way to gain more warmth (though you do) as much as preventing shifting in the down. I had 2 oz overstuff on mine and it has worked out really well.

    20
Yeah a 20° is a good compromise. I added 1oz just for fun.

As far as adding another item like canoebie said, I combined a 40 and 20 TQ and it was fine down to -5°! So that's an option, or you may just decide to get a 0° later on...either way, the 20° is the best first quilt for 3-season IMO.

Yes , I did a 20* Renegade with over stuff in foot box .
I have camped and packed with a 20-0 * bag year round ,never have i had a problem with it to hot .I just open the thing and keep it close, when needed and I always need it .It can be at 1:00 am or 4:00am but I always need it,just pull it over. Then there are the nights that they are calling for 40* and it feels like 20* so I always have a 0*-20* with me ,unless car camping then we are not having a conversation.
All but july and Aug. I use that ,now when it's HOT I use a 40*.

20* with 2 oz overstuff in the foot box because I use a 3/4 underquilt. I also got the sewn foot box so there are no drafts. I used it in September with no problems, just pull a leg out.

Flight Jacket should be here tomorrow...and also just placed an order for a Zeppelin 20° with an oz of overstuff. Sounds like I should be set until winter.

This is quite the detour on the way from Jackson, MI to Grand Rapids, MI. Some days I really wonder what the folks at the USPS are smoking.
