Home sewn home grown tree strap test

We had to close our climbing wall down at work today because of some paint we just put on, so I decided to do some testing. I had some tree straps i sewed loops on a while back and wanted to see if we could get the loop to fail under a static load (obviously taking a fall on them would break it and/or be dangerous). I figured it wouldn't take much to cause a failure because I didn't actually use much stitching when I sewed the loops.

We estimated the tension on the line was about 1000 pounds worth of force, and the tree straps came out looking completely undamaged.

I guess I don't really need to worry about whether my straps are going to hold me up or not anymore!

That stitching looks pretty nice to me. I am surprised you expected it to fail.

Send me a hammock and I'll get right on that

It's Gutterman polyester thread from Joann. Just the standard sized stuff.

What is the webbing made of and where did you get the camo style?

Is this actually surprising? That webbing is already strong, or Dutch wouldn't sell it and that stitching job is better than most of the vendor made straps I've seen. I bet you could do at least 1500# with that strap.

Maybe it's just because this is how I do my straps now and this looks much more significant.
