    Group Tarp / Gable Ends

Cabin fever has set in and I am looking for a group-sized tarp to use while canoeing -- something big enough under which four guys can organize a kitchen/eating area, at least 10' x 14'.

Does anyone here have any experience in pitching this sort of tarp with gable ends? I saw this thread on a canoeing forum and was intrigued by the use of the full external ridgeline and dropped ends.

I can link to a picture of the tarp setup here.

    Vendor is Cooke Custom Sewing.

Is there a vendor here that does anything similar?

    Thanks!

Not sure if links are working -- the thread can be found on Canadian Canoe Routes.

Looks like all you'd need to do is put a dart at each end of the ridgeline and a tieout capable of suspending the tarp at the point of the dart. Just folded some paper to mock it up. Looks like it would be a pretty slick set-up.

Other than something made custom from one of our cottage vendors here, DD Hammocks has a poly tarp close to that size for $79 shipped or Cooke Custom Sewing has a silnylon version for $134.

Bushcraft outfitters has a 10x10 & 10x12 that has 19 attatchment loops, might work for your needs.

I've been using a 9x15 tarp for canoe trips for about 10 years.
It is a good size for 3, and with 4 people it gets tight in there.

We use a ridgeline if possible when a gabled end setup is needed, the result is very similar to a standard hammock tarp setup.

Cooke does some nice work and I would recommend his products, although I make my own stuff for my trips.

    Good luck in your quest!
