Warbonnet Ridge Runner and tarp with spreader bars

So I am considering getting a Warbonnet Ridge Runner. One of the concerns I have seen on the posts is that WBRR can rub up against the tarp. Does anyone who owns/made/uses a bridge hammock use a tarp with pole modifications to prevent this from happening? If so, how effective is it and which tarp did you use?

    Thanks.

We came up with the first external pole mod tarps. It does help to an extent if executed properly with the external poles spaced properly to give you good spread at at the hammock poles. We also came up with a Bumper specifically for the RR to help it from rubbing on the tarp. I use tarps without the poles quite a bit and as long as your careful and use the bumpers then its not as much of an issue as with other bridge hammocks that have a rougher end on the spreader poles.

I used a bicycle inner tube on my ends.

I bought something like the inner tube from one of the hammock vendors. Imagine about 1.5 inch long section of inner tube with a hole punched in it about the diameter of the spreader pole tip. The tube slips on the spreader hardware with the hole towards the inside so the pole "point" goes in it and in the hardware hole. The outer side of the tube - the side toward the tarp, is smooth. The commercial version is has some heat-shrink characteristics that a cut bicycle inner tube would not have. But if the bicycle tube slides off the metal during packing, it isn't going anywhere because the suspension line goes through it. So you just slide it back in place the next time you set up (if it moves at all).

    Yah that's our bumpers.

I use the full hoop shown by Tendertoe with a Superfly and there is plenty of clearance. I usually hang my tarp high if the weather allows - if you were to hang your tarp really low you might have some clearance issues.

I use diy innertube bumpers and a diy external pole mod with my Ridgerunner and Cloudburst. I love this setup. The pole mod really opens up the space under the tarp.

The Arrowhead bumpers are the way to go for sure. However, I made some "bumpers" out of duct tape as a quick fix before a long trip. I didn't have time to order the bumpers and get them shipped to me. That was in 2012 and my duct tape bumpers are still going strong. YMMV.

Thanks for the advice. Tendertoe, that is what i was thinking of. I watched most the vid (I am at work so could not watch all of it) and it seems you did the modification yourself. Very nice job. I don't have the resources to DIY a pole modification. Any recommendations on a tarp maker that does have a pole mod available (I know Wilderness Logics does) or is that something 2qzq might be able to do.
