First tarp, order of operations, help please

    Hi folks,
Continuing my DIY adventures. We have a bunch of snow falling so I have nowhere to be.

I have the parts cut for the DIY Gear Supply plans for a hex tarp. I've sewn the ridgeline edges together with a 1/4" seam.

I'm going to use the grosgrain/Warbonnet method for the ridgeline. My first question is what should be my order of operation going forward to build the best tarp?

Also, do I need reinforcements at the ridgeline ends with this method or just the extra grosgrain as a tieout?

I'm set on the grosgrain idea and realize everyone doesn't agree with that way of doing things. I've not looked at any of these tarps in person so looking for advice.

As with any good build thread... Let's start the pictures as I wait for help, haha!

Laid out before trimming the selvedge.

Trimming with "help" from the pup.

Love this blue! Sewing up the ridge.

Shoot. Guess next step is the cat cuts. Then I gotta figure out the order of reinforcements, hems, grosgrain ridgeline, and tieouts. Maybe that is the order...

I really don't. Is that the order I should go? I'm just going on what makes sense to me, and I've never made a tarp so it's just guessing.

    More pics, cats cut.

That's what I'll roll with. Was trying to follow DIYGS steps but with the different ridgeline I wasn't sure where that fits in.

Will make some reinforcements, hem those in around the edges, then the grosgrain then tie outs.

I'll post pics for anyone curious.

I like how your tarp matched the saw horse legs of your table. That is going to be a sweet looking tarp.

Wife says asking questions and then just doing what I was gonna do anyway makes me an "askhole."

She also picked the sawhorse table legs...and the...

    Orange reinforcements!

    Typically:

    1) Measure and cut panels

    2) Hem three sides

    3) Sew ridge line

    4) Sew tie out's.

Depending on how you reinforce the tie out's, you may need to add sewing the reinforcing material in there as appropriate.

That's how it has gone. Just a little more to go. Ridgeline is on and all that is left are tieouts and some extra threads across the reinforcements.

Biggest goof was letting the thread drop off the grosgrain ridgeline and onto the sil. Will have to try to seal a few thread holes now.

Looks pretty good! I did the ridgeline first, then corner reinforcements, then rolled hem the edges. A bit of a hybrid approach with the Black Cat Tutorial

    Don't forget the Dutch bling!
