    Ski Apache Camping

I'm trying to plan a last minute snowboarding trip as cheap as possible. Is there a good place to camp near Ski Apache that is super cheap or preferably free? I know that the Lincoln National Forest is right there but it looks like all the campsites nearby are closed for winter. I don't really need facilities, just a place to spend the night. Hopefully someone that lives in that area or has done a similar trip can give me some insight.

I contacted the National Forest Service supervisor in the area and he said Skyline campground is the best option.
It looks like the trip might not make though. I was looking forward to my first actual winter hanging.

It's been raining steady for at least 12 hours so the snow conditions are going to be mushy at best. Skyline CG would work but is exposed to our west winds. IMO your best camping would be off Ski Run Rd. at a lower elevation. Turn rt. off Ski Run onto Rt. 117 and then take the first FS road on your left. Plenty of trees complete with privacy, elk and deer.
