Warbonnet Edge vs. WL Tadpole Beginner Tarp

Hi guys, new to HF and very excited to participate with so many knowledgeable hammockers. I've been looking at buying my first tarp, and will be using it for mild weather mostly in spring and summer. I've been looking at both the Warbonnet Edge and the WL Tadpole, and seeing that they are very similar wanted to know if anyone could compare and contrast them or recommend one over the other. Thanks!

I can't say which is better, but my first tarp was the tadpole. 11' with panel pulls and I still love it! Here is a video that shows it with an 11' hammock at about 20:30. http://youtu.be/f1K229Enzdg

Nah, both silnylon tarps, both well made and approximately same size. I love the digital camo the edge comes in. Really, can't go wrong with either.

They are nearly identical with the Edge being 2 inches wider.

Both excellent choices. I don't have either, but like you I would be choosing between these two. Both great vendors as well.

I have both. As stated, both are nice tarps. I love the Edge, which is the more simple (and therefore a tiny bit lighter and cheaper) tarp. The advantage with the Tadpole is customization. Pick a fabric, a color, possibly tie-outs and and and. If you can't decide, toss a coin. You won't be disappointed with either.

Plus add the excellent customer service and fast turn around time from Marty at Wilderness logics And the Tadpole edges out the Edge iMHO.

MY tadpole hit my door step in three days, SF from WB took three weeks. Both are great gear though.

    Cheers

Not for me. Yes, Marty might be faster - but on average not too much faster than Warbonnet (I have ordered with both several times). In the end, what's important to me is the product and how it performs. And I simply like the details of the Edge more than that of the Tadpole. The Edge has a French seam; the Tadpole has a flat felled seam. I like the French seam better. The Edge has small split rings at the ridgeline tie-outs - the Tadpole has D-rings. The split rings fit much better with the Dutch Stingerz, which are my preferred tarp suspension. The Edge has D-rings on the corner tie-outs; the Tadpole only has fabric loops. The D-rings work better with my prussik guy lines. I also prefer the format of the WB stuff sack over the WL stuff sack. Add to it that the Edge is a bit cheaper and performs just as well as the Tadpole, and my choice is clear. Somebody else might prefer the Tadpole over the Edge exactly for the same reasons.

I've owned both tarps andwhile you can't go wrong with either, I kept the Edge over the Tadpole for the exact reasons hutzelbein states.
