    Polyd vs Argon

I am about to pull the trigger on a new hammock. Right now I am in a eno doublenest. I did a search to see if this has been talked about and couldn't find anything.

What is the difference between the polyd and argon?

Which one would you choose and why?

    Thanks!

I'm no expert on the subject but from what I have read in other posts, the PolyD is low stretch and the argon has a lot more stretch to it. It's a personal preference thing from there. I'm sure there are others with more input on the feel of the fabric but that's the biggest distinction I've read. I just ordered one of Dutch's PolyD hammocks and should get it later this week. I found I like the low stretch of my cheapo Walmart polyester hammock more than the amount of stretch I get from my ENO Doublenest, although the size is a little small and the sewing job isn't the best on the Walmart hammock.... With that in mind I went with the PolyD. Hopefully this helps.

PolyD is made of polyester. Argon is made of Nylon. The two biggest differences are stretch, as jamaulwall pointed out, and the feel of the fabric. PolyD is kind of slick, while argon is soft and feels kind of cotton-ish.

Most of this discussion is subjective, purely a matter of personal taste. Apples or Oranges, Red or Green, just a matter of what each individual likes.

The tricky part is humans tend to be fickle, we love something for a while and then something new comes along and we go chase after it.

Get samples or be daring buy a yard of each fabric and color you want to explore, make stuff bags or baby quilts, placemats or ferret hammocks, see how the fabric handles, how it feels, how well it takes to being cut and sewn. There are so many fabrics available for hammock making because there are so many different requests by people wanting something to suit their own taste.

You must make your own personal decision, otherwise just surrender and buy one of everything, because that is what you will end up doing. If you read enough posts you will see most of us own several hammocks. Why? Because we have to try and decide for our own taste.

I think Hammock Forum members are for the most part "Free Thinkers", most of us are not followers, we decide for on our own what works for our particular needs. "Followers" find this site rather difficult.

Stretch effects comfort same as a mattress. Some like a firm mattress, low stretch, some prefer a softer mattress, more stretch.

    Is this true?

    Argon more stretch
    NylonD less stretch
    Polyd no stretch

NylonD make it easy. It is right in between the PolyD and the ARGON 1.6. I personally like the ARGON. I think most will have a tough time telling the difference in the amount of stretch. The ARGON has a something more to the feel of it beyond the amount it stretches. The other two are like a satin paint and ARGON is a flat paint. I feel more like I am in the hammock and not on it.
