UQ. So i can have it in the spring and early fall. It works great as both TQ and UQ. Even if wanted it can be put up as a pod system. Just snap it up around the hammock.
Hanging your TQ as an UQ is very clever. I like the flexibility that the snap system offers. Very cool!

To all of the Sewn footbox people out there - would you ever consider going to a snap style? Why or why not?

All of my TQs are DIY with a mix of end closures.

My winter quilt is a 5.0 climashield with a rectangular footbox. It's taken me down to 20 comfortably with minimal clothing, a 0 incubator and diy sock. I've found I really prefer the sewn in footbox for a cold weather quilt.

I have a mix on lighter TQs. A pair of sewn in 2.5 climashield quilts and most recently a zippered and draw end. I found that in warmer temps I'd often suffer from overly warm feet, so after reading a number of posts on this debate, I thought I'd try out the idea. It's a dual zipper so it can be easily vented or undone completely if needed. I just thought it be a more versatile piece of gear that way.

I have a 40* sewn, 20* sewn and a 0* snap. Definitely prefer the sewn style, more room, no drafts. The only time I've ever opened up my quilt and used it that way was around the house. Sewn costs a little more but for me it seems worth it. If I were going to consider a snap it would only be for the summer weight quilt. The only reason I have the 0* in snap is because I purchased it second hand at a good price.

No Drafts - interesting. I have never used a sewn footbox, so I have no basis for comparison. I'll have to try one sometime soon.

I don't even know the purpose of a snap/cinched footbox. For ground dwelling? The last place I would want to vent my TQ is on the coldest part of my body, the feet. I don't want or need the versatility of using a TQ as UQ.

Not to mention, I just hate snaps, almost as much as zippers. They always seem to fail, or the fabric tears.

I like my snaps. In super cold I might prefer sewn but at 40 and above my TQ pretty much just sits on top of me. I don't even tuck it.

I have been known to stick a foot out the hole to cool down if I'm running too hot, sometimes both.

I have a sewn 20* +2oz overstuff flight jacket arriving Saturday for cold/drafty weather and plan on ordering a 50 or 40* snap/cinch flight jacket down the road for warmer evenings.
