    Staying warm

    Hi all-
Does anybody know of some good ways to stay warm? Open to ideas. More preferable to the cheaper ones ($$$$)

    What Shug said.

Cheap and get you to freezing or so? Pads work. Not for everyone though. Underquilts work too but not as cheap. I made a simple one with about three yards of clearance fabric and some quilt batting that gets me down to 50f or so. Cost was about $30 and several hours of labor.

This is a huge and varied subject, and your question is fairly vague. With no idea what your intended conditions are like, it's difficult to give specific suggestions. I suggest you take some time to read up on how to stay warm while backpacking. The same concepts apply to hammock camping with the following differences:

    1. you're up off the ground, so you have an additional angle to protect/provide for.
    2. for the same reason, protection from the wind is essential

You can make your setup as expensive/inexpensive, heavy/light, simple/complicated as you like.
You have to decide what it takes to keep you safe and comfortable.
One last suggestion: test your gear at home or in a location where you can walk to safety in 20 minutes.

Personally, I use a military patrol sleeping bag, modified to hang the hammock through it (PeaPod-style). inside an SOL Escape Bivvy Lite, under a Hennessey Hex tarp. This has kept me comfortable down to 30 degrees with light winds.
