    ccathcart72,

Had read about making a UQ using NeatSheet on a forum.

Doubled a large one, pinned to sew, planning to leave side opened to slip varied insulation in to try some of the ideas mentioned. Light pads, packing sheets, fleece.
( pulled out old sewing machine, dozen years in storage, not in good condition )

Therefore made the setup mentioned above.
Expect to try : putting regular size thicker toys-r-us version inside the sewn model.

We are also new and spent about a month reading the forum. Learning. Learning.
Soon it was evident there are dozens of directions to go and that the sport of adapting
for ones personal needs was a lot of fun.

Great fun playing with these modern materials and new hardware.

We are not very concerned about weight at this point, van camping.
Yet plan to use on motorcycle, bicycle and kayak in the future.
We are in the experimental phase until we understand what we need.

Thanks for the info and feedback. I have been wanting to play with the Neat Sheet but I have not been able to find it any of the stores where I live. I am in Columbia, SC. Where have you all been able to buy this product?

    Thanks.

I made a Neat Sheet UQ; just the Neat Sheet, no insulation. It is a great little underquilt for those in-between temps when there is a breeze. It provides a little insulation, but not much. More about blocking the breeze that robs you of heat than trapping any body heat. It does trap some, but I will only use mine on warmish nights. Super easy build.
    Trust nobody!

I just bought a new couch and the thing came wrapped in a Neat Sheet type material. I carefully undid the melted/glued edges and it was a 12' x 10' sheet. So if you have a furniture store nearby, ask if they have any blue furniture wrap, that they probably throw away. Don't tell them its something cool. They might just give it to you for free.

Call the nearest "Babies R Us". They should have it.

The NeatSheet was hard to find in stores here in NYC at this time of year, because it is considered summer-seasonal.

Toys-r-us has their own brand. They still had large and regular. Pink and green.
TRU's house brand is thicker and less crinkly. We like the crinkle because you can scrunch around your neck and such.

So went online and drugstore.com still had both the large and regular NeatSheets.
    Added them to our order.
We got two of the larger to experiment with.

Someone said they were on ebay also. Ebay may be the best deal.

Toys 'R' Us doesn't always carry them, it depends on the location. I think I know where all the neatsheet outlets are in my state. I buy the family size, which is big enough to make three quilts easily, so you can experiment. On one of my underquilts, I left a slit for sliding insulation in and out, like the original poster suggested. It works great. The product is sold in two-ply form, so you don't even need to double it up, just stuff your insulation between the two layers. Any sheet-type insulation will stay in place between the neat sheet layers if you ball up a small amount of duct tape and insert between the insulation and the covers. It is really bulky stuff, but light, and there's plenty of spare room in my pack. It also is a cheap way to experiment with quilt designs before using more expensive materials.

Last month I happened by our local price chopper and they were trying to sell off their picnic section as the season ended. Found 4 rolls of neatsheets at half price. grabbed em at $5 each! Cant beat that!
