    Kelty upslope tarp confusion

Has any seen the kelty upslope: http://www.kelty.com/showproduct.asp...e=upslope-tarp

I'm very confused. I saw it in REI a few weeks ago. The tag said it was something like an 11' hex tarp weighing 17oz pack weight. That's not bad for the 40d silnylon it was listed as. I actually pulled it out of the stuff sack and spread it out. By the floor tiles it looked around 11'. Can't remember width.

I just checked the specs online and everywhere it's listed as 78"x68", which is much smaller then I saw. It's also listed as PU coated, although I've a few references to it as silnylon. It's also listed as suitable for ultralight backing and fits two people. No way is a 78"x68" hex tarp big enough for two if it rains! My feet or head would be sticking out if I shared it.

Does Kelty just have specs for the wrong tarp listed? I'm very confused. I am hitting another REI on Wednesday, so I'll check it out again.

I don't think I have it confused with another tarp. I can't find another kelty Hex tarp, and I'd swear it was called the upslope.

I just went to the link you provided and under materials it says silnylon, I'm confused about your confusion... But then again I've only been up for about 60 seconds so far this morning...

OK, waking up more now, so size is the bigger question here... I don't see how two could fit under either at the size stated since as soon as your away from the longest line it's shorter and shorter. 1 person maybe, with a hammock, probably not. Maybe asymmetrical I don't know what that line would give you for length, not going to try that math. Eager to know though, if there really is an 11 foot option.

Ya. That's the crux of it. Size is the big question. I might have seen the PU coating on a retails site. I suppose it could be one of the new silicone on one side with PU on the other side. That would also help explain the slightly elevated weight of 1lb 1oz.

I'll be at an REI on Wednesday night. If they have one in stock I'll report back.

    Edit: just found this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1pHeJupLzZM

Tarp is definitely much bigger than spec'd. They also say weight is 1lb 12oz, but that includes stakes and guys. I remember holding the stake bag and thinking "Oof!" It's at least eight stakes in the package.

I just spoke with Melanie (if I remember correctly) @ Kelty and she determined that the diagram and spec. :78"x 68" were the dimensions for the SIDES of this tarp and that the ridge length was 10' 8". She was going to get it corrected and updated ASAP.

This is a 2 person ground tarp or a 1 hammock tarp.

Yes, but their specs were all wacky. By the specs it wasn't even a one person ground tarp.

Thanks ylnfrt for actually calling. I just haven't had time in the last week to follow up.
