Ok, I have checked with our members and found there to be interest in a June (ish) float hang on the South Fork of the Shenendoah River.
Warning, I am about to cut and past information here, in case you have already read it. LOL
It will actually be free to participate in, there is no charge to float the river or camp on the National Forest land, Just your gas to get there and your meals. This one will not be a "group meal" sort of thing. It is more like a backpacking trip in that you pack your own food and gear in your boat. I mean, we can do a bit of cross planning and "group gear" but, generaly, thats it.
I use Pack-it-Gourmet and CampChow (trailcenterlodge) myself. I have seen MRE's used too. A good water filter is necessary also. I use a Sawyer Squeeze and it did the trick.
A kayak or canoe would work. The river is not that bad. Class 1 and Class 2 throught most of the trip. The last set of rapids, at Comptons is Class 3 but that is where we spend the night the last night of the trip and you can take out above them and put in the next morning below.
I am all about hangs which will not cost our members a lot of ca$h but I do realize that this one would leave out those without boats.
To be clear, you need a boat (w/all required gear & suitable for a river), packable food, of some sort (hey, you can do canned food, if you want, but you will have to pack the cans out), hammock/camping gear, and transportation. As a group we will need enough vehicles to shuttle people back and forth between points.
This is still in the "we're thinking about it" stage so chime in folks.
