FWIW2 as I have not seen an actual hook. A radiused polish will probably work better than a bevel with edges. Assume you also have that thought but sometimes I assume people plug in their computer power cord too. ;-))
It's a grip issue. Smooth edges will not grip the Amsteel and the knot will slip against itself in the half hitch causing the advanced wear problem. As far as a solid braid dyneema, I haven't found a use for any. The second version of Speed Hooks will be out soon, but in the meantime, I'm using my hooks as Whoopie Hooks and they work fine. Just have to make sure the continuous loops are fully seated in the hook.

Hoping to get into a lighter hammock than I currently use, and this speed hook idea is part of that hope. Hoping things work out for 2.0 soon!

I'm holding off ordering a new system until these are ready. I hope there is some movement in the R&D department soon.

I'm not sure where to ask this, but this thread's theme is sorta the same. On the other hand, I understand that Dutch, himself, will probably won't chime in because it would seem like he's sinking someone else's ship. Do the hammock anchors that BIAS sells have the same design flaw?

Please forgive me if asking this question here isn't considered kosher.

I am going to suspend the use of mine. I noticed fraying on the Amsteel leads and spoke to Dutch at the Florida Hang. He suggested a little sanding of the edges of the Speed Hooks. I did this and made new Amsteel leads. After 3 hangs, I'm noticing fraying again. I can't complain, I loved using them, as they were light and simple to use. Also, I got in on the introductory offer of 2 pair at $8.00 each. One pair hasn't even been used yet. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Dutch! I love dealing with upstanding business owners. I will be hitting your site soon for a cinch buckle suspension! Heck, my Speed Hooks may even become a collector's item!

Understanding that they are not recommeded for this application, but is there a reason that the "double hammock whoopie hooks" that are currently available cannot be used as a speed hook, (if I wanted to personnaly assume the risk for fraying etc. which caused Dutch to suspend selling them).

The hole is too big, the knot would slip through.

I will continue to use the version 1.0 and except the possible consequences. Wouldn't be the first time my butt has been on the ground and why I don't hang very high. As it is with over 2 dozen nights on them I've only noticed a small amount of fuzzing on the leads and I carry an extra lead in my kit just in case.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
