    noob from Noob Mexico

Hello all! I just recently found interest in hanging. From the info I found through some internet searching, I I built 2 diy hammocks. I am actually going to test hang tonight. It is supposed to be around 32 deg tonight, so hope all goes well! We (my wife and i) are hanging in the back yard, so worst case, we walk inside. I ordered some silpoly to make some poncho/tarps. Anyone have some good dimensions to start? I do plan to backpack, so something that fits over a pack is ideal.

Welcome to the forums. Hope your first night goes well. Do you have some under-insulation?
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

whoop and welcome. I just live down the road in Corrales. Test hangs are a great idea. I can't get the wife to participate, so I convinced my brother in law to join the hanging movement. A great place to start backpacking is the San Pedro parks near Cuba NM. its about 1.5hrs from ABQ to the trail head. here's a link to try on a DIY tarp, good luck. http://diygearsupply.com/diy-guides/tarps/

Thanks Leo and granny! I injured my back a bit last week, so I only lasted a couple hours out there. I don't have an uq, but I was quite comfortable other than my back.

Those tarp designs are great, but I am really trying to find a poncho that is suitable for a tarp. I may just have to create exactly what I want, as I can't find plans yet.

I have a few poncho's myself, so I can understand using those. Another option to consider...http://www.thepacka.com/
It doesn't double as a poncho/tarp, but if you are going into design mode...its more fuel for that fire. Good luck.
