So you will be a day late to SD. Okay. Lol
A canoe or trike to do most of the hauling.
A hammock to take away the bumps at night.
Now that's the way to go.
Sorry that was last month.

Man I wish I could make this trip.
Regarding the Esbit/Wood/Alcohol conversation I have an aluminum Esbit combo cup and stove, I mostly use a pocket rocket for convenience but will probably go back to the Esbit tabs and try the stove out with wood for when it gets really cold. Not sure if it's big enough or designed well to work with wood. The cup is heavy so I've swapped it out for a titanium one but the stove is nifty at 2 ounces, here's pics:IMG_6287.jpgIMG_6288.jpg
Nice stove Andy and I wish you could make it too. I've longed to go "wood only" for the weight savings and the fun of messing with it. But fun often turns to frustration when you're tired and hungry at the end of the day. Of course you don't need anything to for wood; you just have to be creative in how you support your pot.
Should be a great trip!

Some thoughts on the route and stuff:
First, it would be great to know who's coming for sure and out of those, whose going to be there Thursday evening? I'll be there for sure and I'll be there Thursday evening. Too early to be precise on the weather but looks like we'll see day time temps around 80-82 and nightimes in the low 60's. Trail markers are few and far between but leaves haven't fallen yet so trail should be obvious.
So we'll be meeting at/departing from, Camp Five trail head off J highway at 10:00 am
I'd recommend we hike the loop counter-clock wise as follows:
Day 1, 8.6 miles (longest day); camp near Bliss Springs; down closer to the river; there's one small pond off the trail about 2-3 miles in but it might be hard to locate with the leaves still on, I plan on carrying the water I need for the 8 miles; good water at Bliss springs or out of the river
Day 2, 5.9 miles; camp at Fiddler Springs; there will be water at White Creek's Landing; a good spot for a break, about 3+ miles into day 2; good water at Fiddler Springs
Day 3, 5.1 miles back to Camp Five trailhead; there'll be some water in White's Creek a few miles after we start; from there it's dry until we get back to the cars
Thursday evening, I'm going to hike in far enought to leave the picnic area and pond, then head off the trail to the North. If you know for sure that you'll be down Thursday evening we can figure out how and when to meet up, if you'd like, or you can just look for me where I mentioned.
Still thinking of packing in my flyrod; should be able to fish a bit before dark on day one and possibly work in a few casts the morning of day 2 if we're up at the crack of dawn.
Struggling to write a limeric; didn't seem like it would be so hard! Disco must have been working on his since he first posted this outing!
Still no word from Hairbear.
Looking forward to seeing all of you
Gideon
I will be at the trail head before 10:00 am Friday morning.
With beauty all around you, may you walk.
