Well were down to one month to go! Been anticipating this one for a long time. It's been a hot summer filled with lots of business travel and very little "woods" time. Still need to "tweak" a few things; changing out my Dutch speed hooks on my Darien; unfortunately, they do create excessive wear. Can't wait to see what the weather will be like for this one. We could get that nice cool fall weather or a hot few days of indian summer. I'm hoping for the cool fall weather!

Making plants to be down there Thursday evening with some of the others which will be great!

    Enjoy the day

Well we're finally less than a month away. Just ordered some new whoopie slings to replace a worn hammock suspension. Already feeling the itch to start playing with the cook kit again in order to decide which version to bring...it's clearly been too long!

    Enjoy the day

Are you sticking with esbit? I'm changing mine up for this trip. I'm going with esbit and a new stove after many years of using alcohol.

I'm thinking 10am should be early enough. Do you agree, Gideon?

I agree, 10:00 or whatever time works for you Skygzr.

I've tried Esbit and the upside is significant. The only downside is the sticky mess it makes on the bottom of your pot. Putting your pot back in a sack is a bit messy. I think it's the lightest option for a few days, by far. The smell isn't as bad as I expected when I was reading about them. I haven't decided if which way I'm going on this hike. Alcohol is definitely cleaner. I'm going to see how the weather looks. I might try to go uber ultralight before I have to start carrying the 20 and 0 degree quilts.

    Can't wait

If anyone in the Ofallon/St Charles area wants to drive down together, I'm happy to drive. I live really close to the intersection of Hwy K & Ofallon Rd.

Edit: I just read my post and realized that may have sounded a little creepy. I assure you, I may be weird, but I'm not creepy.... Of course that may not help either. It's really tough to make that kind of offer to people you don't really know and not sound a little bit off. Regardless, the offer is out there now.

    • If you're lost, just go faster. You'll be lost for less time.
