PolyD is a new lightweight ripstop polyester. Some people (including myself) like it because it stretches less than nylon.
I don't really know what argon actually is.
PolyD is the Dutch brand polyester version of Ripstop By The Roll's HyperD nylon diamond weave ripstop fabric. Argon stands alone as a lightweight fabric that I've seen used in hammocks and underquilts, but the down-proofness of it is questionable. The hammock application for it is pretty good, though - I've seen a few folks using it for that.

Dutch's NylonD is probably more simiilar HyperD; I haven't personally compared those fabrics.
PolyD is a very smooth fabric that has no stretch to it whereas Argon has a softer more cloth feel to me and has a bit of stretch. PolyD feels almost a bit plasticy or silk like to me compared to Argon and it seems to generate a lot of static relative to Argon. I like Argon, having used both, but seem to be in the minority; many people really like Argon
There are 3 types of argon I believe: 1.6 commonly used for hammocks, argon 90 and argon 67: both used for quilt shells. Some have used argon 90 for hammocks but it is not designed for that, IMO.

I figured argon fabric was just nylon with a different weave.
And then there's sil-argon from which I've made a waterproof tarp.

This is correct, but PolyD came out shortly after HyperD was announced. I was looking at time frame rather than closest analogous product. Since then, we've seen the introduction of NylonD from Dutch and HyperD 300 from RBTR.
In the end, HyperD/NylonD are arguably better products for making a hammock than PolyD (which is still Polyester and will have that stretch despite the diamond weave pattern).
