FWIW, I make all my hammocks 54" wide after trying several widths up to 68" wide. I am 6'-1" and 200#. The length is 11'. I can't stand having extra material.

When I first went from my Eno DN to my 11' Roaming Gnome it felt narrow. Same when I got a couple of Dutch's 11 footers to play with and hang indoors with. But after a night or two I find I like the minimal excess material as I can see out easier and don't feel so removed from my surroundings. Only downside is if you are going to chill sitting across the hammock as a chair there is a little less to work with.
