    Tarp Mods

Looking for a little advice on adding doors to my Hennessy Hex tarp. Is it possible? Is it a bad idea? Should I just save up a few hundred bucks for cuben fiber tarp with doors? I'm happy with my tarp, but I'd like to add some wind protection for colder weather camping. If it is possible...is there an easy way about making them? Thank in advance! If there's already a thread about this, please feel free to direct me there

    Hi fella.
Have you considered a TW Tarp with doors?
Don't have this model but very happy with my hammocks and tarps from them. Well thought of here in the UK with many people (myself included) favouring them over DD.

What about hammock socks? Is that a better solution, or just a quick fix?

Grizz beaks work too and are removable.

    2qzq will do it.

Personally, at $36 per end, I don't think it's worth it. If you have the polyester version, you're spending $72 for doors, which is about how much the tarp alone costs retail. Sounds like lipstick on a pig to me, but it might make a little more sense if you have the silnylon HH Hex. I'd be inclined to use that $72 on a Warbonnet Superfly or similar.

To expand: are you hiking/biking/adventure running/etc. (i.e.: "Does the weight of the tarp matter to you?") with this tarp?

If you are, the extra cash you save not getting doors/beaks/etc. will be worth putting towards a lighter tarp that will serve you better on long days.

If you're not, go with the cheaper option of beaks or doors: they'll do just fine at keeping the weather off. 2QZQ would be my first choice for that; they do fine work.

To answer your sock question, it's a matter of choice. A sock does better at defeating wind, but a closed tarp does better at offering "non-sleeping" space (i.e.: a spot to hang out with friends, cook when it's howling, etc.).
