    Shock cord on tarps

Hi folks, just wondering if a lot of people run some small shock cord on the tie out points of their tarps?

Yeah loads of people have a small loop of shock cord on each tie out on sil tarp to take up slack when the tarp stretches. I don't at, I've found that I really crank my tie outs down tight and my tarp is still pretty tight the next day, even with rain. Just experiment and see what works best for you.

Yep. They are good in windy conditions and to avoid late night tumbles. I have about 6 ft on each tie out of 1/8" bright green shock cord.

I haven't yet, but I'm planning on doing just that. I think, based on what I see and hear, that it's a good way to keep the tarp consistently taut. I'm planning on pairing mine with Dutchware Fleaz to make the tie out process a little quicker and easier. Untying frozen zing-it sucks.

That's my plan too. I do need to check that my shock cord is small enough to loop through the fleaz though. I'm looking forward to keeping my lines with the stakes.

I'm going the other direction, having recently removed the tensioners from my tarp. Here's why: The shock cord I've used seemed too wimpy and elastic tubing was too bulky. I changed all my guy lines to simple mason line with a prussik loop adjustment. I'm using the main ridge line as my way to take up slack and provide some "give" to the system, since the guy lines pull down against it.

When it comes down to it, it is all personal taste, what you like.. Try it out...
I personnally do not...It has never been an issue to me..

Here's the little rig I made using knot bones and a little loop of shock cord. You can make a simpler rig ... don't even need the knot bone but I kinda like it and it works for me. YMMV though

I use them mainly on sil tarps but haven't used them but a couple times my cuben tarp. I think they work well on cuben to take up slack where you've had to tie off to a less than rigid tree or bush.
