    Poly ripstop vs Ripstop nylon

Looking for opinions and thoughts on poly ripstop vs ripstop nylon. Have heard a lot about the static that comes with poly, but is it really that much.

I notice a subtle difference in static build in up polyester vs nylon hammocks I own. How much static depends on the weather conditions and the clothes I'm wearing at the time. My personal experience is that static build up is so minor it's not a factor in which material I choose to use.

i used some silpoly for one of my hammock chairs and when testing inside on my stand the static was insane! The whole thing just clinged to me. Outside i'm sure it's not quite as bad though.

Whether nylon or poly, static is something I experience only when the hammock is new. Once it gets a little wear (and probably oils from the skin) it disappears for me.

Do any of you have a preference between the two?

I've experienced exactly 0 noticeable static in my hammock made of PolyD.

I think the biggest difference you'll notice between poly and nylon is nylon has a bit more give/stretch. It's a matter of what your preference is.

Interesting. Maybe the static is a personal thing. I get crazy static in my polyester hammocks... My hair looks even wilder than usual after a nap, and I get spectacular light shows in the dark. Every hair on my body will move like a compass needle when I walk past a recently used PolyD hammock. I haven't noticed the static getting any less. My nylon hammocks also have some static - but not as much by far.

Apart from the static, I don't particularly care for the touch of polyester. Most nylons feel softer or are nicer to touch. But since the lay of the poly is much nicer, I guess I have to live with it. Here's waiting for either Dutch or Kyle coming out with a polyester-nylon mix fabric

@hutzelbein: Maybe you should attach a lightning conductor to your hammock. You could ask Dutch to make a titanium one. LOL

I like poly hammocks - hardly ever use my nylon hammocks anymore. Less stretch is better.
