Video: Uwharrie River, NC - kayak/canoe trip

I dug this footage off the computer when my hard drive said it was out of space (only 3 GB remaining) - it was time to either delete it or make a video.
The footage has been sitting there since May, 2014 because I only ended up videoing half the trip (not a good recipe for a good video).
My daughter Natalie got a bad migraine on our last day & I had to put the peddle to the medal.. or my shoulder to the oar? Anyway, she sat in the canoe, I paddled, and a friend towed her kayak for us.

We did have some funny times. We setup our hammocks & camped in the forest off the river. We then found out the trail going thru camp was actively used, as demonstrated by the horse riders with cans of Budweiser (it was Memorial day, so I won't complain). Late that night, we had another group almost walk into our camp trying to find the river or a party or both.

    Logistics:
We did a car shuttle (long - +1 hr?), leaving our vehicles at Morrow Mountain State Park. My wife helped with a 3rd car.
We put in at the Low Water Bridge.
    It was Memorial Day.
Maybe 13 river miles? I can't really recall.
Camped past the 109 bridge, somewhere on river right (that wasn't private property; you need a good map or GPS for this).

I was in a 17' Old Town Penobscot from my Minnesota days. Great lake canoe, but pretty tough to paddle around tight turns by solo. It was an adventure! The rest were in kayaks.

Side note... a shorter and easier trip logistically would be to put in at the Low Water Bridge & take out at the 109 bridge. It would be a much shorter car shuttle. Hmm.. maybe a day trip during the spring Uwharrie hang?

Nice trip! Sorry to hear about Natalie's migraine ... nasty little attacks, especially when on a trip.

WARNING: Will discuss Rhurbarb Strawberry Pie and Livermush at random.

After reading about it in some kayak magazine I had planned a Uwharrie river trip out about 10 years ago but never ended up going. Sounds like fun. If you want some help paddling that Old Town at the spring hang, I'm in.

Really enjoy your trip reports. I need to talk one of my kids into buying "us" some kayaks. I might try some fishing on the river this spring.
