    SE Wisconsin Checking In

    Greetings all,
I'm new to the hammock scene and don't own one just yet. There is a wealth of great information on this site and loads of friendly folks that should aim me in the right direction when it comes time for a purchase.

I am planning on hiking sections of Wisconsin's Ice Age Trail in 2015 with the goal to finish all ~1100 miles in 2016. While researching light tents I stumbled across this YouTube phenomenon known as "Shug". At first I thought there was something seriously wrong with the guy but for some reason couldn't stop watching his videos. Guess between the hammock talk, comedy and superior picking, I got hooked. Shug's videos lead me here. Thanks Shug!

So, thanks to all for providing outstanding reviews, tips, destinations, etc. Getting closer to pulling the trigger on a hanging rig. Really refreshing to see so many options Made in the USA!

    Best regards,
    Brian

I think folks always interpret my joy and verve for hammocks, swarthy looks and winning personality as a sign that something is truly wrong with me. One is expected to be all serious and straight laced a blank faced on camping videos. I reckon I never read those rules!
    Enjoy the hammock quest.

I too was a convert after stumbling upon Shug's video's...not even 3 months later I have two hammocks, new top quilt, an under quilt on the way, and an assortment of various size ropes and cords and titanium line fasteners. All of which I would have never known I "needed". Welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I feel right at home here.

Hanggirl, you're right about WI having lots of trees to hang from. Guess I kind of took that for granted but am starting to get in the hanging mindset and now feel especially lucky! My favorite camping spots in WI and Michigan's Upper Peninsula offer almost endless places to hang both in state parks or stealth camping. Also fell in love with the Asheville, NC and eastern TN areas in October when I went to the Overland Expo in Fletcher, NC. Spent two weeks in the TN woods plus along the Trans America Trail. There again, trees everywhere.

Welcome from the SouthEast corner of the state! No hammock yet?!? I've hiked all of the IAT in the Southern Kettles, not enough free time to even think about the whole trail......... yet!

A whole new world awaits you! And yes, everywhere you go you'll be looking for a spot to hang

Be on the lookout for a Southern WI spring hang, we're gonna get it done this year!!!

Welcome in from a fellow 'Sconsinite.

For a first hammock I don't see how you could go wrong with this: http://www.infinityoutfitter.com/store/c9/Leisure.html

Hung in mine a few times and find it comparable to my Trek Light Gear Double which cost twice as much and comes with cheap rope and cheap carabiners not the AmSteel loops and great 'biners the Infinity comes with. BTW, I get the impression Infinity is phasing out the Leisure so they may not be available for long.

    Did someone say Spring Hang??
    (insert pithy quote here)
