For hammock camping the coldest I've been in is low 40's in Tennessee on the Fiery Gizzard Trail. For tent camping it was on Blood Mountain on the AT, it got down to somewhere in the teens with windchill.
    Is it hang time yet?

I am convinced the vapor barrier made a huge difference and it will be part of my cold gear for anything longer then a single night out.
Thx for the clarification! I'm starting to suspect that knocking out evaporative cooling, plus keeping insulation drier, with VBs has even more warmth benefits than I have already been giving it credit for.

One more clarification? The 0 and 20F UQs- they were partial length UQs, is that right? If so, were you stacking them under your back/butt for double thickness, or did you stretch them out to cover your back and legs for a full length?

I hung the 20* as if my foot end was the head end and then hung my 0* normally with it overlapping the 20. Both are partial length. Seemed to work out ok.

I don't consider it "cold" until we're talking single digits (<10°F). Okay maybe lower teens. But 20°F+ for me is just a nice morning to enjoy coffee.

My lowest was 3°F last February. Beautiful trip with about 30" of snow on the ground. Dead quiet and mostly sunny all 3 days.

    Setup:
    WBBB 1.1DL
    20° Incubator UQ
    15° Marmot Pinnacle sleeping bag
    BMJ tarp with doors
Cold sleeping clothing (hat, wool socks, capilene 3 base layer, fleece jacket as pillow)

Completely warm all night. I would feel confident taking the 20° Incubator into the single digits again, but to be safe I recently purchased a 0° Incubator.

-6F last winter in my backyard. Claytor jungle hammock, 0* UGQ uq, -10* military mummy bag, winter tarp, UnderArmor HEAT shirt, medium long underwear and jogging pants, heavy wool socks, winter jacket over feet. I was plenty warm.
I now have a Thunderbird, and an UGQ 0* top quilt. I'm on the South shore of Lake Superior, which keeps us a little warmer in winter, I'll have to go further inland (maybe Finland Minnesota!) to get much colder. And I just got a 100% wool Boreal shirt from Lester River Bushcraft!

A buddy of mine tells me a story that went something like this-
My wife asked me "Do these jeans make my butt look fat?" and I replied "It ain't the jeans".

That brought on a polar vortex.
Happy Trails to one and all.
Enjoy the outdoors wisely and elevate your perspective.
