    Indoor hammock advice

So, my son digs the hammock and any of his friends that have tried one are also probe to grinning and such. So in order to try for a dad of the year award nomination, I thought I might figure a way to rig a hammock for when he has sleepovers and in his limited space room, we dont have a lot of real estate on the actual floor whereas the hammock could theoretically hang over a train set or other reasonable toys without impeding anything. Is is as simple as driving a couple of sturdy eye bolts into the studs across the room or do I need to get real analytical of the situation?

Yep Its that simple a eybolt on each wall in the center of a stud and your set I did this for my Daughter She loves it sleeps in it every night.
I used 3/8" eye bolts ( lags really ) I think the threads were 2 1/2" long Pre drilled a hole in the center of the stud and screwed it in.

About 6 ft up the wall.
    Thanks,
    Sam

Make sure that your wall can support the weight (even if the kids jump in their hammocks) and hang the hammocks as low as possible. I would avoid having kids hang over anything that might hurt them should they break or fall out of the hammock.

I machined 2 anchor blocks out of alum. And used 2 3.5" lag bolts in each and put into the top plates of the walls and hung hammock above our futon in spare room.
It has worked out very well but you have to step on futon to get into hammock.
When I get back to my computer ( on phone at work ) I will post a few pics.

A stronger choice is a ceiling joist. All loads are compressive.

I'm just using eye bolts in studs here with a couple of active kids. All of my components are rated for 350lbs or more. If you do use the eyebolts, make sure that you turn them all the way into the center of the stud so that the rounded part is flush with the wall. You may have to insert a thick screwdriver to twist them in all the way. This will lessen the chance of the bolt coming out of the stud and someone falling to the floor.

I agree with previous poster that safety is first and wouldn't suggest putting up a hammock over anything else. Ceiling joists are definitely a better choice for more than occasional use. But, I live in an apartment and the ceiling has a popcorn finish on it. The landlord gave me permission to install the eyebolts into the wall. Once I get my own place, I will likely look to the ceiling since we are full-time.

How would one go about using the ceiling joists? This would be great for my basement as the joists are exposed. Still at 8' would I hang direct from the bottom of the joist? Would that require quite a large space to get my hammock close enough to the floor? Like 20'?
