    Which underquilt protector?

So, I was out camping a couple weekends back and found the most fantastic site, which wasn't far from some nice flowing water. It offered some great white noise for sleeping but when I woke I found my UQ quite wet. It hadn't rained so I'm guessing all the flowing water had caused a lot of airborne moisture and it had just accumulated. I realize a lot of people use underquilt protectors and was looking at those offered by 2QZQ when I saw that I could get them in breathable ripstop or argon as well as in silnylon. It got me thinking.... I realize that silnylon isn't breathable and will do a better job of keeping the water out but will keep moisture/condensation in. I couldn't decide whether this was better than using a breathable material in regards to keeping the UQ dry. I figure I'll only use something like that when there's enough rain or moisture to collect on the UQ or if it's so windy that I need a wind block to keep warm and I just can't wrap my head around whether a non-breathable barrier would actually keep the quilt dry in these conditions or just trap more moisture in.

    Any thoughts?

I have the 2QZQ breathable and like it. Definitely keeps the moisture off and adds warmth to the system.

From what you are discribing it sounds like dew. In my experience dew collects on the outer surfaces of things.
So a DWR coated UQP would be all you need. It will still allow your perspiration (sweating, transpiration, or diaphoresis)
    to pass thru.

Another vote here for 2QZQ. While you are there, their camp table is awesome for using stoves and not having to crouch to the ground for them.

I tried both....I started with the waterproof one and was silly enough to put it on when the temps were hovering just below freezing. I ended up with terrible condensation inside the cover. This of course was basically using a vapor barrier incorrectly. I traded that one in and got the breathable version and haven't looked back. While it won't stop hard blowing rain it prevents moisture from getting on the outside of your quilt and and adds quite a bit of warmth.

I've found that a breathable UQP sprayed with a light coat of Campmor makes a water resistant, yet breathable protector. Have been using the DIY I made for about a year now with great results. Out about every night here in Montana and have not had any condensation problems. Using 0* down quilts and they have stayed dry.

Could be; I don't honestly know. I ended up in the Andrew Pickens ranger district and kinda just wandered until I found a nice spot to rest. It looked like the site had seen some use so I wouldn't be surprised if someone recognized it.
