    Cat cuts on Silpoly tarp?

I am having a hex tarp made using silpoly. The stuff has no stretch to it, so I'm wondering if a cat cut would be necessary or even worth the trouble. Thoughts?

If you are handy with your tieout placements you can do a lot more with a straight cut tarp.
For example Doors without having doors sewn on.

Doors would be nice. Could Velcro be added to the sides for easy on and off?

By placing mid point tieouts you have doors on a straight cut tarp.

I'd say no to cat cuts as well. Here is my 11.5x10' DIY rectangle tarp. With 8 total tie-outs placed properly, it has no trouble being versatile. This is from the first hang in the wild.
Next addition is an asymetric pole mod and a center tie-out for porch mode dormer style.

Just to be awkward: the cat cuts on a silnylon tarp are mostly there for when the rain soaks the material and causes sag. The stretching of a silnylon tarp is usually sufficient to get a half decent pitch with no cat cut edges or ridge-line. My thinking is that to reduce flapping and looseness you'd still be best have a small cat cut on silpoly, cuben or whatever else.

Of course this is all moot is you're using panel pulls so feel free to go with the straight edges should you wish your sewing to be gloriously easy and save some cash on the build :-)
