new to hammocks, have a few questions

    hi all,

i am looking into hammocks for motorcycle camping. i have a hard time sleeping in general, i toss and turn and thrash around a lot. so i have read on one of the motorcycle forums (ADVrider) where people rave about the quality of sleep in a hammock, and i am thinking about giving it a try.

i'll be posting a few queries on the general hammock talk page if that's ok.

    thanks,

Welcome from South Central TN. I travel on motorcycles a lot. I take a hammock & a small 1 person tent. Most hammock stuff will work in a tent. I also carry a small Thermorest just in case I have to go to ground. 4-7 day runs I call where I plan to stay to check on availability of trees & if hanging is allowed. Longer trips 2-3 weeks I just prep for hammock & tent.

I'm a former rider. I think hammock camping sounds great for riding trips. Just make sure you're prepared with some kind of alternate method if there are no trees or you're not permitted to hang. Then be ready for all your riding buddies to ask you 100 questions about your incredibly awesome hammock.

Welcome from a walker, not a rider.

Make sure you read the book (Ultimate-Hang) and watch the videos (Shug).

    Enjoy.

For me for outdoor sleeping, hammocks are the best in comfort. So if you are having tossing problems on the ground, I'd definitely give hammocks a try.

several of the guys n gals i was riding with HANG @ night

there is always a hammock, or several, hanging between the trees on out group rides

and they're why i got into HANGING

yes, as stated above^, much of the same stuff works for both ground & suspended sleep

invest some time and visit a GROUP HANG, where you can see the different methods of HANGING and the many different combinations of gear

your time will be well spent

Welcome to the forums. Used to motorcycle camp when I was in Europe. Had a great time. Don't ride no more.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.
