Replace my eno dn with a Dutch Hammock

    Hey all,

I need your assistance and feedback. I am frustrated with my eno dn. I'm 6'1" and 275lbs. I'm trying to determine if I will stay with gather end or go bridge. I thought dutchs hammocks would offer multiple options

    Inexpensive to try
    Readily available
    Quality materials
And some history from forum members

    My desires:
    Comfortable in terms of feel
    Low stretch
    No shoulder squeeze
    Flat lay

    My thoughts are 11' PolyD

And I want to get a new suspension setup. Currently us ucr, with tree huggers and msh. Feel free to throw thoughts here too.

    Thanks for the help

I just ordered an 11' PolyD with a fixed ridgeline and a speed hook suspension minus the tree straps (most place around here require 2" straps and I have a set). I did it for weight reduction purposes and hope to get some additional comfort such as calf pressure. I picked out the parts I thought I needed to meet my objective then emailed Dutch to get his feedback before I ordered. I also did a bunch of reading on the forum about what people liked and did not like. The above is what I came up with to give a try.

BTW, I had an ENO double and found it to be the least comfortable of any of the hammocks I have had so far and the Dutch Poly D will make hammock number 8. It was too short, I had constant calf pressure, I could never find a sweet spot in it, and the fabric was always in my face. I traded it off to someone who loves it.

I will be doing the same thing. Getting a Poly D but not sure if 10' or 11' will be best for me. 5'8" about 170. Opting for speed hook suspension and structural ridgeline. Mainly for weight reduction. I have no problem with my ENO except the excess flaps on the side.

I've slept in an Eno DN, and have several hammocks. I can't say I've had a bad sleep in any, but for what it's worth, my personal favorite is an 11 foot Dutch Argon hammock. 6'0, and go back and forth between 220-240#.

Replace my eno dn with a Dutch Hammock

I have own an ENO DN myself and have recently purchased an 11' Dutch PolyD.

While I didn't really have too many complaints about the DN I can say I really enjoy Dutch's PolyD. I didn't notice stretch but then again that wasn't something I really am all that concerned with.

I have a 110" SRL of Zing It and use it in conjunction with whoopies and tree straps until my next order of bling arrives in a day or two.

I slept in it last night in my backyard as a matter of fact and had a pretty good sleep considering my trees were a little further a parts then I'd like and I set up in dark.

Dutchs Hammock is definitely lighter than the DN. The only drawback I might have observed was the static electricity factor. Something about this fabric gives it a lot of "electrical activity". When entering the hammock after dark it was like a mini electric. Show inside the hammock. It didn't bother me, just an observation.

you mentioned hammock with less shoulder squeeze, is there a way to help a ENO DN so that i can reduce shoulder squeeze?

The Argon is a bit stretchier than the PolyD, but the Argon has a softer feel to the fabric. That's not to say that the Argon is stretchy or the PolyD not soft.

Having slept in PolyD and Argon, I personally found Argon to be more comfortable. I like the tiny bit of stretchiness and think it feels nicer to touch but this is purely personal opinion.

Ha - it's exactly the other way round for me... I love everything about the 1.6oz Argon fabric - with the exception of the lay it provides. I have tried spending a couple of nights in a DIY single layer Argon hammock, and woke up with back pains. I think it's due to the stretch. Now, I don't really like the slick touch of the PolyD, and I hate the static it produces (much more than any nylon fabric I have tried) - but it all doesn't matter when I'm lying in it. Of all the hammocks I used (which is quite a few), it has the flattest lay - BY FAR. And I have no calf ridge whatsoever. Either I did something "wrong" when sewing it, or it's the fabric. I think it's the fabric.

Disclaimer: my PolyD hammock is 12' long. But I'm comparing it to my other 12' DIY hammocks made of 1.9oz ripstop and 1.6oz HyperD. I'm probably going to make a shorter PolyD hammock one of these days, to see how much the flat lay depends on the length.

@Xtrm tj: You should check back with Dutch if the PolyD is suitable for your weight. I haven't seen a weight limit for this fabric. When he announced it, Dutch said the PolyD had not the same capacity as 1.9oz ripstop - but it would be fine for my weight (~135lbs). So maybe you need a double layer PolyD hammock.
