    Peapod

    Ok, folks.

I'm looking to make a peapod for myself.

I have an ENO Double Nest with a fixed ridge line. I live in Georgia and will camp in the winter so 20's would be the coldest. My questions are:

What is best type bag for this?

    Cheapest?

    Temp rating?

Any other advise would be great.

    Thanks

Will you be using a Top Quilt And Under Quilt as well ?? It's not too hard to stay warm with a TQ/UQ @ 20*F ...

2.5" baffle height would fit your 20* F temp criteria.

    Here's a nice piece on making a quilt.... http://thru-hiker.com/projects/down_quilt.php

You can get calendered rip stop nylon at rockywoods fabrics.... http://www.rockywoods.com/Fabrics-Ki...p-Nylon-Fabric

Just add velcro down the middle and drawstrings on the end. Find a couple of used goose down sleeping bags on craigslist and wash/dry them and then gut for the goose down. Presto... a homemade peapod!

Funny, I've been considering making one myself, lately.

No quilts. Will be using a tarp but I really just want to use the peapod with tarp over the top.

Look for a bag with full length zippers, preferably one with two zippers so you can open the foot end and allow the hammock to pass through .. Use a bag that's rated atlleast 10*F, you'll be heating up more space with just a peapod... If you decide on a higher rated temp., ex.30*F, supplement with clothes worn. Test where you can safely bail out until you're certain you'll stay warm at those temps..

If you're a big boy like me I suggest two bags . I tried it with one M1945 and it was too tight . I now have a semi pea pod with the hammock passing thru the head end and another M1945 for a top quilt . Im shooting for zero tho . I've also been making insulated hammocks that could handle 20 pretty easy .
