Silly question but I'm totally serious...

Getting ready to hang the new Hammeck Netty and HG Incubator tonight for the first time. In order not to set everything up in the dark, I hung the hammock and installed the UQ just before dark. My question and worry is...have you ever had a cat or other pet decide to use your down gear as a scratching post and come out to discover a pile of loose down under your hammock? Thanks

I haven't and actually hung in the woods many times before dark. Came back to nothing damaged. This is common with group hangs where you hang your hammock then walk a distance to the group fire.

Having said that, there is a post here somewhere in which a mouse was in his underquilt!

Thankfully no. But this is why when I eat I do not do it in the hammock, change cloths before bed so I don't smell like food. Once a critter chewed threw my ur sack minor which was next to my tarp tied to a tree but no problems with my quilts. Fingers crossed.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I am assuming you mean house cat... My first thought was a mountain lion... and I hope that never happens to anyone. Although I would be pretty shocked if it did.

House cats are afraid of dogs, especially big ones, if you're worried about it go get yourself a nice St. Bernard or Greater Swiss Mountain Dog... or heck, even a Rottweiler or Doberman would do. Then teach it to eat cats. Problem, solved.

I wouldn't trust a cat or dog alone with my quilts. My beagle Peanut is even worse than a cat; he spends five minutes scratching and pawing at his bed before it's just right.

I agree with Silvrsurfr about trusting a dog or cat, sometimes they do the unexpected.

That being said, this summer on an overnither a squirll had a strange obsession with me set up, just my grey/green tarp and Xlc under it.
I needed to leave camp for about half an hour so i chased him away before we left camp and when we returned he was standing on my suspention line 1 inch webbing strap,, when he saw me he made some kind of chuckling noise, almost like he was laughing at me and then he jumped up on my tarp, ran the length of it and went up the tree,, .
I don't pratice being cruel to animals but NOBODY messes with my gear!,, i threw some rocks at him and off he went never to return but that night i woke up with the strange feeling that he was around, and most likely only wanted to cuddle!
