Tripod stand (like turtledog etc) made with deer hoist tripod header?

I've been looking at the Turtledog stand and in thinking about tripods, I came across these deer hoist tripod headers and am considering these as well. I would like to support 350lbs and have reservations about the turtledog because of that. Has anyone ever seen a tripod hammock stand made with something like this? The product page says that you should use 1-5/8" pipe for legs. I think 2x2 should work if you rounded the edges. The product page is here. $50 at Cabela's. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Boss-...B&gclsrc=aw.ds

it says it'll hold 1000 lbs, so using a pair of them to hold up 350lbs should be a breeze

your choice of material for the legs might be your only concern

I'm curious to see these in action. I recently got a TATO stand which works awesome, but I'd like to build another stand for my wife/kids/whoever. These tripod headers look perfect. 1-5/8 I think is what fence rail posts are measured at... maybe try those? Regardless, please post a follow-up if you try it out!

Any type of connection to hold the legs together at the top is fine. These are more than sturdy enough to hang a ridgepole. The RP is what holds your full weight and the leg connection just holds half of it.

No matter what you use for the top of the legs, make sure to use a leg spread limiter a foot or two from the bottom. This helps to keep too much shear pressure from that top connection trying to pry the legs apart at the hinge.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
