    Question Silnylon hammock layer

Ok this may sound a bit bizzare but would silnylon be breathable enough for say a bottom hammock layer with ripstop as the top layer supporting the weight? or would treated ripstop be a better option? I'm just kinda spit balling ideas around in my head. Thanks! -Matt

No. Unless you want a hammock that isn't breathable at all. If that's the case, it would be a totally viable option

Might work...only way to find out. The Silnylon might work as a vapor barrier and be a good wind block for when its cold.

I'm in the camp that everything below the tarp should be breathable.
Calendered ripstop, DWR treated are great but no syl for me.

I've woken up in a pool laying on top of a synthetic bag in hot weather. I'd rather not repeat that experience in a hammock.

I could ...maybe....see it if you only had a smaller "summer" tarp that did not protect from the sides and ends and you needed wind protection.
then I would wonder about the reason you went in to the cold with a summer tarp?????

or are you fishing for an under quilt protector fix?????

I dont think it is a totally bad idea. I use a vapour barrier when out in cold weather to keep moisture out of my down. Issue i see would possibly be the lack of vapour barrier on your top half. Try it and let us know how it works out.
