    NJ > Mullica River > 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trek > Fri. 11/28 - Sun. 11/30

What: Halloween is over, the weather is getting colder, nightfall is coming sooner, and the leaves are falling: must be time to think about the 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trek! (Yes, in case you're wondering, this is an official GSHDANJ event)

When: We’ll be hiking in on Friday, November 28th (Black Friday ) and hiking out on Sunday November 30th.

Where: This year will be at Mullica River Camp again. Having a water pump is a definite bonus, and there are plenty of route choices to accommodate anyone’s mileage proclivities. I myself haven’t decided if I’m going to do the straight 4 mile hike, or the more roundabout 8 mile loop. Choices, choices.

Important Note - This is a hike in hang. Mullica River Camp is not accessible by car – you can technically get within a mile or so of the camp by service roads, but you cannot legally park overnight there. So if you’re interested, plan on walking (or canoeing … brrr!) in. Besides, the whole purpose of this hang is to walk off some of the feasting we’ve done in the days before – cold piney air is good for the soul and digestion. The NJ Winter Hang is just a few short months away, so all the car campers can get their fix of the Pine Barrens – this is for the intrepid souls that want to get out and stretch their legs in the crisp pre-winter air.

Sites: We have already reserved sites 7 and 8. That’s good for a decent group of hammocks. There are plenty of other sites with decent trees, but no need to go paying for extra sites until we figure out what our actual needs are.

How: I’ve created a simple spreadsheet HERE so we can get a headcount.

Food: Plan on lunches and Sunday breakfast being bring your own. Saturday night dinner will definitely be a group meal. We’ve got some plans, and we’ll flesh them out a bit more once we see who all is interested in attending. Friday night is more up in the air – we can either pack in dehydrated, or discuss a simpler group meal. I wouldn’t oppose a decent breakfast over the fire Saturday morning either … maybe bacon and egg tortilla wraps ...

Cost: $3/night per person, plus we'll share out the cost of the reg fees for individual sites (hence not grabbing extra unless we need them).

** After discussion with the other GSHDANJ leadership, and based on the number of people currently interested, we'll amend this:

    $20/person, and that will cover:

    Dinner Friday
    Breakfast and Dinner Saturday
    Breakfast Sunday
    Site Fees
    Wood

This is an easier way to handle everything, we'll guarantee awesome meals for all and people don't have to worry about what to bring or how to carry it, and well even arrange for strategic drops of supplies. Lunch is still bring your own. **

That about covers it. I realize it’s a holiday weekend, and many will have plans and family obligations. But I’ll be out there regardless, and so will a few others - so feel free to post here if you're interested in joining us.

    Cheers!
