I have a 20* Incubator and Phoenix with Dutch's summer sock and I was literally sweating in 26* weather with wind. I'm sure the winter will get you down another 15-20 degrees. Just have to watch out for that condensation.

I also took my sock to the tailor and got a six foot long #3 zipper from Zpacks sewed along the seam. Much much much easier to get in and out without having to reach over your head to cinch and open the sock. I put two zipper pulls on for accessibility. Only added 0.8 ounces to the total weight.

Nice! Now this is the kind of info I like to hear. I was hoping for another 15* out of it and the zipper mod is a great idea. Thanks jkc107 for sharing.

I would love to see some pictures of this zipper mod. Great idea by the way.

Short, sweet and to the point!!

That is a good idea he had and made happen!

Unfortunately, we would not be able to pursue the idea for two reasons. One...I am so busy, I don't have time to add anything to our offerings right now...unless of course, Tim comes up with something...which he is working on. How can I say no to him...he wants me to have the prototype finished for the Mt Rogers hang later this month. Hopefully I can squeeze it in!

Two...our business has a policy...not to cut into the body of anything we modify. This is a policy we decided early on, and have kept it for reasons I feel strongly about. With the zipper mods...we don't cut into the body...only at the seam where the netting is attached to the body.

Thank you for thinking of us...it means a lot that you would have the confidence in our work!

    OK...Back to work!

Due to the overwhelming number of requests (2 people), here you go.

The zipper is 6 feet long with two double sided zipper pulls. Zipper is #3 non-separating. Total added weight is 0.8 ounces. Got it from Zpacks. I wouldn't recommend any shorter than 5 feet of zipper or else you risk the chance of tearing everything when you get in your hammock and realize that your thighs are pulling the zipper wide open.

Pardon the terrible quality (and the mess). I needed to adjust the photo since the black is hard to see.

The zipper is sewn directly on the seam where the mesh meets the argon. I tied 1.75 Lash-It from Dutch to use as zipper pulls. And what would this photo be without paying a little tribute to Donna? Yes, that's my new 2QZQ ridgeline organizer at the top corner.

Lastly I got a mini cord lock and some Lash-It and put it around the tapered end. Even if the hole is small I noticed there's a slight gap and I didn't want to risk anything getting in. Having it cinched tight gives me a sense of ease. Total weight added from this: No clue wouldn't register on my scale.

Tim just read what I wrote and pointed out to me that what I said in the quote didn't apply the work done in post #101. I thought it was a complete netting sock...I didn't know that the zipper was added between the netting and solid bottom. The pictures showed that! With that said....reason #1 still stands as a big reason that, as of now...I wouldn't be able to offer this modification. Who knows what the future holds. If I can catch up to my normal turnaround time and stay there...I might talk to Dutch. Dutch could have his seamstress make them with a zipper...who knows!!
