The windspeeds are about as accurate. I suppose the helpful part of RHK is that one can find enough places to hang out of the wind. Just don't pick big trees as that will result in feeling like your sleeping in a dinghy on 8 foot swells when the top of your trees sway violently.
Usually the worst of the wind blows straight up over the fire pit.
That being said, the long term forecast appears to be warming . The highs Friday and Saturday look to be 15 degrees warmer than Wednesday. The lows are 12-15 degrees warmer as well. My guess is that Friday night will be about 17, but prepare for 0-5. With a hammock sock and a good tarp, the windchill shouldn't be an issue. The windchill will mostly be a problem sitting around camp for hours, especially since the fire pit tends to be the point where the wind comes through the most.
That's exactly what I meant on mountain forecast being off. It doesn't have 6000 feet as being much colder than 3000 feet, when there should e about 9 degrees difference. This weekend would be a real test. My guess is that the lows will be close to -10 without the windchill. The following Saturday, it will probably be above freezing.

Looking for who's driving to Cravers Gap and parking, that I can mail a Resupply package to. I'll, of course hike to grab my Resupply .. Unless you'd like to provide courier services as well. I'm hiking in from Erwin and plan on hiking back to Erwin, if my gear is working for me .. Otherwise I'll be bumming a ride out towards Johnson City ..

Black Wolf, are you hiking in with wisenber and Roache or going solo? That's a lot of miles and the trail may be snow covered.
