Follow along with first down quilt build.

Well time for a new quilt,
Need something to take me to -10
Using the latest calculator v3 the fabric sizes are accurate.
    http://goo.gl/4D7bO2

Using pertex 4 uncoated for inner and pertex 4 dwr coated for outer for splash resistance.

First cut all fabric and marked out baffles.

At the moment the calculator is estimating,
    18oz or 500g weight
Using 700 EU fillpower (800 US fp) down because its very cheap.
Approx temp down to 15f, -9c
Just over 3/4 length for me.

Will be interesting to see what the final figures are so i can update the calculator.

I used a fine polyester mesh fabric from the local store and cut all the baffles out,
2" plus seams so 3" all the cutting it done, just need to sew sew sew.

Then just sew the baffles to the inner, a bit tricky, walking foot really helped

Cool wack the outer on and create the channels all in one, double stitching for strength

    Stuffing the Down.

Well here is my stuffing station, Tin foil container on scales, static strap, poking rod, sieve is for catching floaters

The vacuum with a stocking on the end saved me from filling the conservatory with fluff.
It was really tricky stuffing, but got the hang of it in the end.

I measured out a complete baffle's worth of down in a bag, squashed it up and put it to the bottom of the baffle,
using the poking rod, I turned the bag inside out in the baffle, emptied the down, then turned the bag the right way round again,
removed the bag and put any left overs in the bag by hand in the baffle.

for nine baffles took about 3 hours !!!

Mr Stay Puft is All finished :)

Finally finished, sew up the last end channel same as the rest and all the shock cord and micro paracord for cinch up the ends with some toggles,
    added small light weight biners.

Turned out to be exactly 600g, 21.1oz with biners and lines, 55in long, 45in wide, height of lofted baffle is 3", compresses very small.
In the end my suppler gave me extra down in the bags for free, so I ended up with 18% overstuff
Temperature down to 9 deg F or -13 deg C minimum, think it will go more

    Total Cost £57 or $90

Updated the UQ calculator in line with final result UQ Calculator v3.1

Pertex wicking on the inner shell, pertex coated on outer shell for shower resistance.
Will be trying it out in about 2 weeks time, cant wait
Just need to make large cotton storage bag, and a compression sack for travel

Great work, looks toasty! If you have any issues with the quilt sagging, most vendors now add extra lines from the corners to help snug it up and stop the accordion effect.
