A big shoutout to Kyle @ Ripstopbytheroll.com and hk for a great thread.
I have really enjoyed reading about this new tarp material, the build and all the testing.
And to end the project with a give away is simply awesome. Thank you both.
Thanks for all the testing! I'm going to have to add this material to my wish list. It's going to be fun reading all the stories in the giveaway thread.
Crazy good info! Thanks!
I ordered 9 yards of Silpoly yesterday to make my first tarp. Are the cat cuts still necessary since there is no stretch?

hk, I'm coming to this Post really late BUT it was excellent read. I really thank you for your efforts, you have provided great research to me, and I'm sure, many of us. And a shout out to Kyle for giving you the sample fabric.
Just finished reading the thread. the WHOLE thread. rarely happens because I can't stay focused long (on multi page threads) enough to finish. But you dida great job of taking us through the entire process. Great explanations, testing, examples and pictures.
I have been wanting to start a DYI tarp projects and had lot of concerns and questions. Like materials, patterns and such. You answered some questions I had.
Thanks again for information.
My wife and i recently finished three large tarps with sil-poly from RSBTR. Easy to work with, light weight, a joy to set up, no water gets through, pitch stays taut. Not much to complain about except that I did have to pay for the material, lol. Would I use this material again? Yes, and if buying from someone else I would require sit-poly. Good stuff, but it seems that every time we find a new "perfect" material someone pulls out something better, so I assume this is temporary, but I sure do like it.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.
