Never sieces to amaze me how people mock what they don't understand. Mostly people ate kind and simply curious when asking about my hammock. I have had a few pull up their noses. No loss to me if they miss out on the fun.

Never had a bad experience. In most circumstances I can see the curiosity on their faces long before they walk up to the site. Once I show them...its all "wide smiles" and to some degree a real grasping of the practicality of such an approach. For others...I've even seen the "hammock bug" bite them while they were standing there...lol.
I ended up in a national park one night (never again), and while I was sitting on the picnic table of my campsite a mother and son walked down the trail toward their site. Apparently the son had expressed his excitement over my hammock and the mother in an attempt to dissuade him, pushed through the bushes and positioned her head just so, then pointed at the open end of my tarp and said, "See? You can see right in." I love how she was teaching him about boundaries like that.
While setting up, "Look, a bear taco"
I have a huge 13 x 9 double tcf home made rig. Wife and I sleep together in it when weather is right. Had some folks ask "dang how many people yall got in that thing?".
One of my favorites is that in an alabama state park they say you have to have a tent up on the site. I hung my hammock , tarp , bug net etc. Then right on the little spot I popped up a little tent. The guy on golf cart came around and just sat there staring at the whole thing. I said "I told you I didn't need a tent" he said "yep you did" and just rode off.
My friend and I were at a music festival and we were getting into our hammocks pretty late at night. I was still awake and listening to all of the goings on when I saw some drunk walking past our camp notice my friends setup. He stumbled into our camp and started looking at it like it was an alien spaceship. After peering into it for a minute, he stepped back and kicked my friend in his hammock as hard as he could. I jumped out and started cussing and yelling at him and he just cussed back and gave me the finger and stumbled on down the road. I went back and checked on my buddy who was snoring. The next morning, I told him the story and he never woke up during the whole thing
Hey Shane, how drunk was your friend?
: )
Mostly just things like your gonna freeze or your gonna fall and always let em sit in it and instant converts.
