Specifically with the superfly.
Is the CRL a necessity?
My first instinct without ever actually doing it say it might be due to abrasion concerns on the tarp.
Just curious if anyone has any insight.

I dont like or use a crl, i go with stingerz on each end but i do have concerns about my pole mod rubbing the top of my tarp.
I have made up a long piece,28 ft to be safe of shock cord, simple with mitten hooks and a cord lock that i'm gonna run above my tarp for the poles to rest on the next time i hang with my tarp, i'm sure it will work, just take another minute to set up but i dont care.
ok gotcha....
shock cord between the two trees just to keep the poles up off the tarp right?
Good idea.
I know the CRL isn't recommended for the superfly so it got me thinking....and up till now I haven't had to delve into the whole CRL can-0-worms.
I do not use the CRL due to the rain water following the line to under the tarp but I do use the pole mod to hold out the tarp and it does not appear that i see any wear under the poles (if that is the wear you are referring to). Just a note that I camp out about 45 to 55 nights a year.
If you forward to the 3:50 mark you can see how I am set up.
