Tarp ridge line vs. tie outs

Is there an advantage to using one over the other?

Did you mean single ridge line vs double ridge line?

I've been struggling with this question myself. Lately I've ended up bringing both. If there is high wind, heavy rain or some other extreme weather, I feel more comfortable using the single ridge line. If it's a nice night, and I probably won't even need the tarp, the double is fine. Generally I notice the single keeps the tarp more taut all night long. Where as the double might be a little quicker to setup/takedown, but tends to go more slack by morning (flapping).

Here are some links to help explain what I mean ... There are several variations of each of these, but hopefully this will make sure we are all on the same page.
    Single Ridge Line
    Double Ridge Line
    Hope this helps.

I use a single ridgeline over the tarp to keep the pole mod off the ridgeline of my tarp:

I have a ridgeline, my son has tie outs. We have the same tarp. Ridgeline is a tad bit quicker to set up but tie outs allow the trees to be closer together, imo. The ridgeline makes a nice clothesline too. I hang mine above the tarp.
