    999 on speed dail

I just found out my wife has a sewing machine, been together 25+ years ,never ever seen it,until last night, so I have been up all night mainly trying to figure out how to thread the stupid thing,( waking the missus up at 3-00 am to ask how to do it was not a good idea ) so now I am waiting to go get some material, needle , thread, Band-Aid shopping, going to make something just don't know what yet, I am already weak from blood loss so I cant think straight, I might try a gathered end hammock first that way I will only have 2 end channels to sew, wish me luck but I gotta start some where, 1 question is there 1 thread sorta all purpose that I should get ,I was looking at some of the thread names etc.,etc, and I am totally baffled. it was the missus idea to put emergency # on speed dial

Ok, so I did a little googling and found out 999 is the 911 for a few countries, namely UK. It was the first emergency response number, starting back in 1937. But as far as I can tell not the correct number to dial for emergencies in canada. Good luck on your adventure, its a fun ride.

I know DIY can kill a lot of time & bank account but I forgot how deadly a sewing machine could be to human flesh until I sewed right through a finger the other day. Thread injectors should come with big red 911 stickers on them (999 for UK or 1937 time warp).

I found this thread on thread most helpful. I got some Tera 60 for sewing hammocks, though, because I was doubtful that my machine would take the 40. According to the Gütermann website, the Tera 60 is still stronger than the Mara 70 that most people here seem to be using. I just made a simple GE hammock with Tera 60, and the seams look mighty fine.

BTW, DIYgearsupply sells all Gütermann threads! I had a hard time finding a seller for Tera in Europe...
