During warmer weather, we avoid the crowds and stay in Clifty Wilderness. A lot less people in that area!
This past summer was very crowded and I am going to use the off season to learn some off the beaten path campsites. It is starting to tapper off for campers but the day hikers are still coming out. Last trip I counted 30 people going into Hansons looking for a spot. I do have a back up spot if Hanson's seems to be crowed.

I'm most definitely interested in this. I went to the RRG for the first time (twice) this year and have not been able to explore many of the trails yet so this would be great. I'm not new to backpacking/camping so I have a lot of gear in that department but I am new to hanging and don't have anything but the hammock and slings right now so I'm probably going to need to start stocking up if I'm going to make this trip.

After reading a little more closely I saw that you posted this. If you happen to have any type of UQ or tarp that would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to have one or the other by that time but I'm currently in the process of buying a house on top of the holidays coming up so I'm trying to watch my spending.

SirMarkos and I went to RRG several times this year, including one weekend that did nothing but pour buckets of rain (Great way to test out your gear, although it didn't make for a fun-filled weekend). The scenery is beautiful and there are lots of great trail to hit. We are looking forward to this trip, if it happens, as we have never been there during the winter months. Just another opportunity to test out the winter gear too.

Yes I posted some route options, any opinions? I will lock in a date in the next couple of weeks. I will also be posting information about this and other trips here as well on HF.

I go to RRG every two weeks, the trip is a go already I just need to verify which weekend it will be. My visitation with my kid gets a little screwy during the holidays. Should have the date posted in couple of weeks.

I don't have an extra UQ but I do have an inflatable large sleeping pad and windshield reflector, which has worked great for me during the cold. I do have a 10x8 and a 6x8 walmart tarp. I used to rock a tarp made from Painters nylon drop cloth 12x10 at home depot for about $8 then line the edges with duct tape. It held up to a nasty wet windy night at the gorge 4 weeks ago. Revhiker on youtube has a vid about. I would still be using it but the weight savings for a cuben fiber sucked me in.

I'm pretty flexible. I just like to be out on the trail enjoying the outdoors. Whenever you get the dates nailed down, I'll be ready.
